Definitions of the Design system often include the words library, guidelines, styleguide and visual language. In fact, the design system includes all these aspects. The design system includes what we used to call the usability chart and the graphic chart.  It is a reference library and guide for designing and developing a business application, an e-commerce site or any other form of digital product or service. The technical and design teams can thus draw on ready-to-use components written in a common language. The content of the design system depends on the identity of the company and its digital ecosystem. However, the following elements are usually included:

• UI components and patterns
• Visual principles around typography
• Colour palettes and associated rules
• Iconography and imaging
• Grid layout for structuring elements, spaces, etc.
• Brand communication principles (language, tone...)
• Reusable user interface (UI) elements
